our solero coffee table available and on display at Gabriel Ross

Solero coffee table- Arostegui Studio

In collaboration with the metal worker William Whiteside from Samco Welding, we have created a unique and contemporary furniture piece. After a year of planning and prototyping, Solero is now part of the beautifully curated and elegant Gabriel Ross collection.

The coffee table has a modern design based on solar and geometrical patterns. Straight lines are used in various directions and angles, creating an engaging and distinct view from the top.  The quarter circle represents the sun and serves as the focal point of the table’s structure, whereas the sun’s rays supply the body of the piece.  The Studio also offers the mirror image of the original design to allow the client to decide which works best in the layout of their space.

The base is powder-coated steel with a beautiful oil rub bronze, which adds an appealing texture to the piece. The 1/2” tempered glass top showcases the composition and pattern of the piece. The dimensions of the Solero coffee table are 48”L x 29”W x 18 ½”H.

In this new local collaboration, Arostegui teamed up with the skilled metal worker William Whiteside from Samco Welding. Although this is the first collaborative work that is displayed in the Gabriel Ross showroom, Samco has been the manufacturer of all the metal designs from the Studio.

The Sofi bench, one of our most iconic furniture designs, was recently the juror selection in the Prototype exhibit at the Interior Design Show West in Vancouver. Cristian Arostegui G, our principal designer, was in Vancouver to receive the 1st place prize of the competition.

The Prototype Exhibit is a juried platform competition at the IDS West, a showcase of North America’s next generation of designers. Professional and student designers present both to-market and conceptual works. Ten participants from an extensive list of applicants were carefully select to compete in the prototype competition.

This award and recognition are important milestones for Cristian Arostegui G. and the Studio as relative newcomers to the design industry in Canada. The jurors are recognized and accomplished colleagues, architects and design influencers.

Anne Pearson (Vancouver Special) tweeted that“the decision was unanimous”  @vanspecial (Twitter account of Vancouver Special retail store, owned and run by Anne Pearson) between herself and the other two jurors Nancy Bendtsen (Inform Interiors) and Judson Beaumont (Straight Line Designs Inc.).

As a prize, we will be presenting more designs at our own booth at the IDS West 2016.

IDS West show preview

"The Sofi bench was also selected to be the image of the prototype exhibit in the show guide".

Sofi was very well received by the attendants at the show. Many were impressed by the contrast between the delicate shape of the design and the amazing strength of the material, Ductal. This new kind of concrete, cast by Szolyd locally in Victoria, provides incredible strength while using minimal material.

Currently we are planning and looking forward to have our own both at the IDS West 2016.
